Chocolate Agar [MB-C2143]
A highly nutritious medium for the isolation and cultivation of fastidious microorganisms, especially Neisseria and Haemophilus species.
PROCEDURE
Suspend 33.0 G in 920 mL of distilled or deionized water. Heat to boiling completely dissolve the medium. Sterilize by autoclave 121 °C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C in water bath. Aseptically add 70 mL of Horse Blood Defibrinated (MB-H1883) or Sheep Blood Defibrinated (MB-S1876) and heat in a water bath at 80°C for 10 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C in water bath. Aseptically 2 vials of Growth Factor Mixture (with Hydration Fluid) (MB-G2521). Mix well. Dispense into petri dishes.
STORE
The powder is very hygroscopic. Store the powder at room temperature, in a dry environment, in its original container tightly closed and use it before the expiry date on the label or until signs of deterioration or contamination are evident. Store prepared medium at 2 - 8°C.
