Introduction
Triton X-100 is a mild non-ionic surfactant, also known as a scale remover. It is commonly used as an additive to improve the permeability of eukaryotic cell membranes and to maintain the structural stability of proteins, especially membrane proteins, when purified. It is also used to lyse cells to extract proteins and organelles and permeate viable cell membranes for transfection.
